NMEP (National Mineral Exploration Policy) unveiled


NS Tomar (Union Minister of Mines and Steel) unveiled the NMEP (National Mineral Exploration Policy) on 4th July 2016. The aim of this new policy will be to re-establish a comprehensive exploration strategy for non-coal and non-fuel mineral resources. The event took place at the NCMM (National Conclave of Mines and Minerals) held in Chhattisgarh. The policy’s most noteworthy contribution will be to provide a comprehensive and collaborative platform for bringing together the best of experience, knowledge, trained manpower, financial resources and modern technology. Additionally, for checking of illegal mining through surveillance system the scheme will use space technology. Furthermore, private companies participating in exploration will be incentivized as per the new policy.


Hero MotoCorp and Gurgaon Workers inked a three-year wage agreement


India’s biggest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp (HMCL) inked a significant wage-settlement agreement with the Gurgaon plant workers. As per the agreement, permanent workers of the Gurgaon plant will be given INR 12500 hike of a period of three years. Furthermore, this new agreement will be retrospectively applied from 1st August 2015 onwards. Previous agreement signed was between Aug 2012 and July 2015. In addition, HMCL employs about 1400 employees (permanent) at the Gurgaon facility. The manufacturing facilities of HMCL are globally benchmarked. Furthermore, the 4 facilities are located at Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Neemrana (Rajasthan), Dharuhera (Haryana) and Gurgaon.


Madhav Dhekane elected as ISRO-IS (Inertial Systems) Unit Director


Madhav Dhekane, noted scientist was elected as the ISRO-ISU (Inter Systems Unit) Director on 1st July 2016. Consequently, Madhav will be the 7th ISRO-ISU director with its headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Madhav received his B-tech (electrical engineering) and M-tech (systems and control) from IIT, Mumbai. Furthermore, he started working with VSSC (Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre) in 1983. He has varied experiences in mission design, software development, analysis as well as in guidance design and launch-vehicle control. He has also assumed many significant places in ISRO, most noteworthy include Deputy Director, Chief Controller as well as Associate Director at VSCC. ISRO-IU is a R&D unit of ISRO.


Niranjan Mukundan (Para swimmer) won 8 medals in the IWA- World Games


Niranjan Mukundan (Para swimmer) won 8 medals, including 3 gold, in the IWAS (International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports) World Games. It was a U-23 (under 23) tournament that concluded on 3rd July 2016. The event took place in Prague. Niranjan from India bagged 3 gold in 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle. Additionally, he scored silver in 50m freestyle and 100m fly. Bronze medals were scored in 100m breaststroke, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle events. Niranjan has physical deformity known as Spina Bifida. His backbone closings as well as membranes across spinal cord are incomplete. He is supported by GoSports Foundation.


World Bank releases LPI (Logistic Performance Index) 2016


World Bank released the LPI (Logistics Performance Index) for the year 2016. The title of this year’s index is ‘Connection to complete: 2016: Trade Logistics in the Global Economy’. Through this index, 160 nations across the globe are compared. Also, It is a global benchmarking took for helping nations identify challenges as well as opportunities while measuring trade logistics performances. Furthermore, it also provides various recommendations on performance improvement.
