Union Cabinet approves AIIMS establishment at Gorakhpur
Union Cabinet on 20th July 2016 approved AIIMS at Gorakhpur. AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) is a top medical institute in India. It will be built under PMSSY (Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana). The cost of this establishment will be INR 1011 Crore. The cost excludes recurring costs. These may be wages, operation, maintenance, salaries and expenses. The recurring expenses will be compensated via PMSYY Grant-in-Aid Plan. The institute will have 740 beds. These will include ICU, trauma/emergency, private and AYUSH beds. It will also have Administration Block, Auditorium, Night Shelter & residential facilities. It will also conduct various research activities.
CCEA approves GTP Project in UP
The CCEA (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs) approved installation of GTPS in UP. The approval was done on 20th July 2016. GTPS is Ghatampur Thermal Power Project of capacity 1980 MV. The project is a joint venture between NLC and UPRVUNL and named as NUPPL. NLC (Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited) is a thermal firm. The project cost is estimated INR 17237.8 crore. The cost also includes interest from the construction phase. It will be commissioned in three Units. It will of 52, 58 & 64 months. The generated energy will be supplied to entire UP. The coal requirements will be met via Pachwara CB in Jharkhand.
6000-year-old barley grain-gene sequenced
Scientists achieved success in sequencing 6000-year-old barley grain-gene. With this, Barley becomes the oldest plant-genome to be sequenced. It was published in Nature Genetics Journal on 18th July 2016. The Chalcolithic grains were recovered from Israel’s Yoram Cave. This prehistoric barley’s genes are similar to present day barley. This has supported the current barley domestication hypothesis. The excavations were conducted by universities of Israel & Jerusalem. Uri Davidovich & Nimrod Marom headed the excavation. The grains were split for researching. Half of the each grain piece was subjected to radio-carbon dating. Other half was used for extracting ancient DNA.
Union Cabinet approved SDC incorporation
Union Cabinet on 20th July sanctioned SDC incorporation. The cabinet was chaired by Narendra Modi. SDC (Sagarmala Development Company) will be formed under 2013 Companies Act. Shipping Ministry will have administrative control. Initial capital for building SDC will be INR 1000 crore. It will also include subsidized capital of INR 90 crore. SPVs will be given equity support via this firm. Also, residual projects will be given funding under this scheme. Project identification will be through PPP or private mode.
ECI launched NERP 2016
On 20th July 2016, ECI (Election Commission of India) launched NERP. NERP (National Electoral Roll Purification) 2016 was launched across the nation. The objective was to improve the Electoral Rolls health and optimise PS locations. The motto is ‘No voter to be left behind’. The aim is to make ERs error free. Single ER will be available for entry via unique EPIC number. Repeated, dead or absent entries will be removed. Good quality photos will be unloaded. All contact details will be property written.
