Primitive Tribe Groups to get new cell in Jharkhand


Jharkhand Government decided to provide new cell for Primitive Tribal Groups. The announcement came during mid-July 2016. The PTG will receive separate Welfare Department cell. The objective is to monitor benefits under numerous schemes. The cell will also have an Assistant and a Consultant. Welfare fund for the PTGs is provided by Union Government. In Jharkhand, there are about 3 lakh PTGs. They are also known as PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group). They fall in the LDI (low development indices) communities. Their characteristics include hunting as main occupation. Other features are extremely low literacy level and negative growth in population.


Satish Mathur selected as Maharashtra DGP


Satish Mathur has been selected as Maharashtra DGP (Deputy General-Police). Maharashtra Government announced the selection on 20th July 2016. He is an IPS of batch 1981 & will retire in 2017. Mathur will be succeeding Praveen Dixit. Dixit is an IPS, 1977 batch and will retire on 31st July 2016. Dixit held this post from September 2015. During selection, Mathur was Additional DGP-ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau). Mathur is a known name in the CBI. He was a critical team member during March 1993 Mumbai-serial blast prosecution. He was the COP (Commissioner of Police), Pune since March 2015.


Haryana launched PBY (Pashudhan Bima Yojana)


Haryana Government launched PBY (Pashudhan Bima Yojana). The launch took place in Jhajjar on 29th July 2016. OP Dhankar (State Minister- Animal Husbandry & Dairy) launched the program. The yojna is in accordance with the recommendations from Swaminathan Report. Under this Yojna, 1 lakh cattle will be covered. Cattle breeders will be given insurance at various premium rates. For camels, bulls, cows & buffaloes insurance will be at INR 100 premium. For goat, pig & sheep, insurance cover premium will be INR 25. The coverage will be for 3 years. Insurance companies will provide compensation in case of any death of the animal.


IDF (International Day of Friendship) 2016 observed


On 30th July 2016, IDF (International Day of Friendship) was observed. The objective is to support the objectives and goals of COP (Culture of Peace). It also promotes the declaration & actionable programmes for COP. On this event, international firms, CSGs & governments are encourages to hold activities & events. These initiatives are for promotion of dialogues among civilizations, mutual understanding & reconciliation. It was first proclaimed by the UN in 2011. The idea was friendship among nations, cultures and people can encourage peace efforts. It will also build strong bonding between communities.


UNWD against TIP, 2016 observed


On 30th July 2016, UNWD against TIP (Trafficking in Persons), 2016 was observed. During this day, UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) launched #igivehope campaign. It was launched with the objective of showcasing human trafficking victims. The day aims to raise awareness the sufferings of victims of human trafficking. It also promotes and encourages for protection of their rights. A critical General Assembly meeting was held in 2013 for a global PoA (plane of action).
