MC committee constituted for Ganga De-siltation


Union Ministry (WR, RD & Ganga Rejuvenation) launched MC committee for Ganga De-siltation. The committee was prepared for preparation of guidelines for River Ganga de-siltation. The committee is named after Madhav Chitale. He is an expert NGRBA member. He is appointed as Committee’s Chairman. NGRBA (National Ganga River Basin Authority) is formed for three months. Guidelines will be prepared for Ganga de-siltation from Farakka (WB) to Bhimgauda (Uttarakhand). Differences will be established between sand mining and de-siltation. The objective is to establish e-flow and ecology of river Ganga. The committee establishment call was made by Uma Bharti. The plan was announced during 6th meeting of NGRBA (National Ganga River Basin Authority) on 4th July 2016.


Neeraj Chopra wins gold at the WAC


On 23rd July 2016, Neeraj Chopra won gold at the World Athletics championships. He is an Indian javelin thrower. He won the IAAF Under-20 Championship category. The event took place at Bydgoszsz, Poland. With this, Neeraj is a new global record holder with 86.48m. It also brought India its 1st world record. It is also India’s first-ever gold across any global athletics event. Silver was won by Johan Grobler from South Africa. He scored 80.59m. Similarly third place was grabbed by Anderson Peters. He scored 79.65m. Neeraj set his world record in the 2nd attempt. The previous record holder is Zigismunds Sirmais from Latvia. His record was 84.69m set in 2011.


Feliciano Lopez grabs 2016 SOG


On 24th July 2016, Spain’s Feliciano Lopez won the 2016 SOG (Swiss Open Gstaad). He defeated Neatherland’s Robin Haase 6-4, 7-5. This was Lopez’s first clay title and fifth overall. Lopez is tennis professional on ATP tour. In 2015, he achieved career high world ranking of 12. He has been playing majors since 2002 FOT (French Open Tour). He has reached Wimbledon quarterfinals thrice in 2011, 2008 and 2005. He won the Vienna Open 2004, Johannesburg Open 2010 and Eatsbourne 2013 & 2014. Swiss Open is being played since 1915.


Prime Minister of Nepal resigns


Nepal’s Prime Minister Oli resigned. He was heading government of Nepal since October 2015. Reason behind his resignation is no-trust motion. This motion was set after withdrawal of Maoists support from this coalition government. His resignation came after two significant alliances decided to go against him. They were RPR (Rastriya Prajatantra Party) and MPRFD (Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic). Both parties supported no-confidence motion against Oli. The motion was tabled by CPN-Maoist Centre and NC (Nepali Congress). He was accused of not honouring deals that made him PM.


India’s first-ever Water Metro inaugurated in Kochi


Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala CM launched Water-Metro Project on 23rd July 2016. It was launched in Kochi. It became the first-ever Water-Metro Project across the nation. Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) has funded Euro 85 Million for this project. Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic is a development bank from Germany. The bank inked agreement with KMRL (Kochi Metro Rail Limited). The deal will be of INR 747 crore. This Water-Metro will link mainland with several island.
