FTF-ITT Programme- Second Phase launched
FTF-ITT (Feed the Future-India Triangular Training) Programme started. This will be the programme’s second phase. It took off on 25th July 2016 at New Delhi. The launch was done by USAID (U.S Agency for International Development) and Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Ministry. Special agricultural training will be provided to 1500 agriculture professionals. It will cover professionals across Asia and Africa. The objective is to minimise the institutional & human capacity gaps. The gap is present in the nutritional & food security across select Asian and African nations. The program will run for 15 days. It will have 32 training programs. It will cover 12 nations. MANAGE, Hyderabad and USAID will cover the entire expenses.
Flipkart acquired Jabong
On 26th July 2016, Flipkart acquired Jabong. Jabong is an online fashion company. It was acquired by Flipkart’s Myntra unit. The objective is to maintain market leadership. Financial details have not been revealed yet. The acquisition will fortify Flipkart’s stance across the Lifestyle and Fashion segment. Its main competitor is Amazon India. Jabong was established in 2012. It was merged with 4 other retails in 2014 to form GFG (Global Fashion Group). The 4 retailers were from South-east Asia, Middle East, and Latin America & Russia. Jabong boasts 1500 plus international and national fashion brands. Previous deals for Jabong buyout with Amazon India, Future Group and Snapdeal failed.
Union Government approved J&K Himayat programme
On 26th July 206, Union Government approved J&K Himayat Programme. INR 1600 crore was approved for this programme. It is under the skill-development initiative ‘Himayat’. The funds will be used for training local youths (1.24 lakh) for various vocational courses. Both urban and rural youths will be given the training. It will include job-intensive courses and will run for a period of three years. Trainings will be for 6 months, 9 months & 1 year. Each block across the state will have training centres. These centres will provide training based on geography and needs of the area.
Brazil declared measles free by WHO
Brazil declared measles free by WHO (World Health Organisation). The declaration came on 26th July 2016. The decision was made after Brazil reported zero registered cases in 2015. Between 1985 and 2000, there were no domestic measles cases in Brazil. In 2013, cases were reported across north-eastern Pernambuco states & Ceara. PAHO (Pan-American Health Organization) and WHO worked together for eradicating the disease. A joint-investment of USD 335000 was made for this. Also, 165v dedicated staff were hired in Brazil. Measles mostly infects kids below 5 years.
Milkha Singh to be honoured with BG Award
Milkha Singh is to be honoured with BG (Bharat Gaurav) Award. The award will be given by East Bengal (Kolkata Football Club). The announcement was made on 16th July 2016. The award is also known as PIA (Pride of India Award). The award will be presented on 1st August 2016 on EBFD (East Bengal Foundation Day). He will also receive INR 2 Lakh cheque. Do Dong Hyun (South Korea) will received ‘Best Footballer of the year’ award. He will receive INR 50000.
