Steve Elworthy elected World Cup 2019 Managing Director
On 19th July 2016 Steve Elworthy was elected as World Cup 2019 MD. He is a former fast bowler from South Africa. The 2019 World Cup will take place in Wales and England. He will be overseeing lead-up and management of World Cup 2019. He will also be in-charge of the Women’s WC and Champion’s Trophy. The CT and WWC will take place in Wales & England in 2016. ECB (England Cricket Board) will be hosting the events. Steve has acted at Tournament Director in 2007 & 2009 WT20s. Steve made his debut in 1998. His first international match was against Pakistan.
Rohit Khandelwal crowned ‘Mister World’ title
Rohit Khandelwal was crowned ‘Mister World’ title on 19th July 2016. He is a contestant from India. The Mister World finale took place in UK. Rohit became the first Asian & India to win this title. Nicklas Pedersen (Mr. World 2014) passed the title. Rohit also won USD 50000 cash prize. Fernando AA Soto from Puerto Rico was first runner-up. Aldo Ramirez from Mexico was second runner-up. Rohit is originally from AP. He has worked with Spice Jet and Dell. He debuted on television with ‘Yeh Hai Aashiqui’. He was crowned Mr. India on 23rd July 2015 in Mumbai.
NITI Aayog and Intel India sign agreement
NITI Aayog and Intel signed agreement on 19th July 2016. This agreement was signed for starting ATL (Atal Tinkering Laboratories). ATL is an initiative under AIM (Atal Innovation Mission). The aim of this laboratory is to ensure building of skills among youngsters. It will also provide technology access for solutions. The labs are expected to reach minimum 250000 youths. The labs will be set up across 500 schools and communities. It will motivate child innovators to become entrepreneurs. Intel will ensure establishment of ten ATLs. These ATLs will be State Huns for management and monitoring. Intel will also help in building mentor capabilities.
Advay Ramesh wins GCI Award
Advay Ramesh from Chennai won GCI (Google Community Impact) Award. It is a theme-based award given during the Google-Science Fair 2016. Advay created a device that enhanced the productivity and safety of fisherman. The device was called FELT (Fishermen Lifeline Terminal). It uses SPS (Standard Position Services) for navigation and productivity enhancing. Ramesh is 14 years old. He will be competing for a USD 50000 Google scholarship. This award recognises projects making practical differences in the community of the innovator. The first Google-Science Fair was held in 2011. It involves open competition among 13 to 18 year olds.
Rajya Sabha passed CLA Bill, 2012
On 19th July 2016, Rajya Sabha passed CLA Bill, 2012. This bill will be amending the 1986 CLPR (Child Labour-Prohibition & Regulation) act. As per the new bill, children below 17 years of age are allowed to work across family enterprises. These enterprises should be non-hazardous. The 1986 bill prohibits any such child employment. The new bill adds an adolescent category. The government can omit or add any hazardous work from this list. The punishment for child employment is also increased. The government can also make frequent inspections as per the new bill.
