SSC CHSL Cut Off 2016 & 2015/2014

SSC CHSL Exam is an open competitive exam where candidates from any corner of India can apply and compete for the given posts. However, one consideration in such respect is the cut off rate in exam which eliminates those candidates who have scored less than the benchmark as fixed by the SSC Authority. This is where cut off rates become so important for the candidates. As an examinee, candidates should plan their preparation in such a manner that they are easily able to score more than the expected cut off.

Update: Cut off and result 2015 released for exam held on 1, 15 November, 6, 22 December 2015 and 23rd July 2016 for LDC, DEO, SA & PA Posts.

The above mentioned figures were the cut off for the written exam. The exam offered a maximum score of 200 marks and the duration of the exam was 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for VH).

From the above figure, we can easily conclude that if a person belongs to the general category, a score of 60- 65% is sufficient to qualify for the next round. For some groups like SC and ST, the cut off rate falls below 100, hence making a 50% score in the exam safe for them.

Is this is the actual cut off for CHSL 2016?

No, this is not the actual cut off for CHSL exam 2016. This is only an expectation which has been computed by experts on the basis of exam paper trend and previous track records. In reality, the right to determine the cut-off is with the authority and the score mentioned on the official website of SSC, www.ssc.nic.in is only the actual cut off.

How is a SSC CHSL exam cut off determined?

The cut off is determined by taking a variety of factors into the account. Here are some key factors which contribute to the cause-

  • The ratio between applicants and vacant posts

  • Level of exam paper- Easy, Medium, Tough

  • Reservation quota

  • Overall performance of the candidates in the exam

  • External factors

What is the difference between cut off and sectional cut off?

Cut off stands for the overall score in a paper which a candidate must score inorder to qualify for the next round. Whereas, sectional cut off stands for the minimum score which a candidate must score in every section inorder to qualify for the next round. Suppose a candidate scores 23, 35, 15 and 40 in the four respective sections in the exam, then his overall stands at 113. Now, if the department declares that the sectional cut off is 20, 25, 20 and 25 and the overall cut off is 95 then the candidate may have passed in the overall cut off, but not in sectional cut off, therefore, he will not qualify for the next level.
