The above mentioned figures were the cut off for the written exam. The exam offered a maximum score of 200 marks and the duration of the exam was 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for VH).

What is the difference between cut off and sectional cut off?

Cut off stands for the overall score in a paper which a candidate must score inorder to qualify for the next round. Whereas, sectional cut off stands for the minimum score which a candidate must score in every section inorder to qualify for the next round. Suppose a candidate scores 23, 35, 15 and 40 in the four respective sections in the exam, then his overall stands at 113. Now, if the department declares that the sectional cut off is 20, 25, 20 and 25 and the overall cut off is 95 then the candidate may have passed in the overall cut off, but not in sectional cut off, therefore, he will not qualify for the next level.
