Smart Pulse Survey by AP Government for 1.48 Cr. Houses
The Andhra Pradesh Government has issued a new campaign under ‘Smart Pulse Survey’. The objective of this survey is to collect socio-economic data for AP area. This currently includes 1.48 crore households and the survey commences from July 8, 2016. The first phase of survey will start from Andhra CM, N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence at Vandavalli. The proposal to conduct a survey was presented on June 1 2016 by the State Cabinet. Citizens can also contribute to this survey by entering their information online.
Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away
A reowned Pakistani philanthropist, Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away on July 8 2016. Aged at 88-year, the man was well-known for his contribution to the society. Having established Edhi Foundation, he had been running the organization for 6 decades. He was also known by names such as ‘Father Teresa’ and Angel of Mercy. Being one of the most respected figures in Pakistan, even PM Nawaz Sarif honoured him at his death. The Edhi Foundation has the largest ambulance service where a fleet of more than 1500 ambulances including road, air and marine.
CEO of Microsoft, Kevin Tuner resigns
Kevin Turner, better known for occupying the seat of CEO in Microsoft has resigned on July 7 2016. After serving the company for 11 years, Kevin took the decision of vacating hi seat to allow others to take up his responsibility. Prior to Microsoft, Kevin had a 20-year experience with Wal-Mart where he grew from an employee to a corporate officer. In his past, he had also served as a CEO of SAM’s Club, one of Wal-Mart’s division.
SA and India ties cooperation in 4 areas
On July 8 2016, South Africa and India signed MoU on 4 areas. This bilateral cooperation includes sections for Grass Root Innovation, Arts and Culture, Tourism and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). PM of both the nations, Narendra Modi (India) and Jacob Zuma (SA) announced the bilateral cooperation in a summit level talk. This is one of the numerous developments which has come under PM’s tour to African countries. This list of nations includes: Kenya, South Africa, Mozambique and Tanzania. The aforesaid MoU was signed at Johannesburg, SA.
FAT TAX proposed in Kerala
The Government of Kerala has proposed for implementation of FAT TAX @ 14.5%. The event took place on July 8 2016. T M Thomas, the Finance Minister of Kerala made this proposal. The intent is to levy an additional tax on consumption of junk food such as burgers, pizza, tacos and sandwiches that are sold through branded outlets. At present, about 10% of adolescent girls in Kerala are facing the threat of Obesity. This is an initiative which looks forward combat the consumption of junk food. The proposal is in compliance with WHO’s tool to promote healthy eating. In 2015, WHO had released a report which concluded that junk food is a leading cause for disorders such as diabetes, cancer, etc., and hence, taxes can be imposed to promote healthy eating.
