NASA successfully deployed BEAM (Bigelow Expandable Activity Module)


On 28th May 2016, the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and Bigelow Aerospace together successfully launched the BEAM (Bigelow Expandable Activity Module) on the ISS (International Space Station). This is an experimental first of its kind inflatable room connected to space stations. BEAM is an EHT (expandable habitat technology) demo for the Space Station. This habitat decreases the transport volume amount to a great extent thereby making future space projects easier. These habitats are lightweight as well as need negligible payload volume. However, they expand to a great extent once deployed, providing a comfortable space for astronauts for working and living and protection against cosmic and solar radiation.


Chabahar Port Contract: Advantages for India


During the last week of May 2016, a new contract was signed between President of Iran Hassan Rouhani and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. A total of 12 agreements was signed and the event took place in Tehran. Out of these agreements, the most crucial agreement was the TTA (Trilateral Transit Agreement) between Iran, Afghanistan and India. In this deal, India has offered development of a new Port and Chabahar for export of goods from India to Iran with onward connection possibility to Central Asia and Afghanistan. The firms that represented India and Iran during this event were PMO (Ports and Maritime Organization) and IPGPL (India Ports Global Private Limited).


Lewis Hamilton grabs 2016 Monaco ‘F1 Grand Prix’


On 29th May 2016 Lewis Hamilton grabbed the 2016 Monaco ‘F1 Grand Prix’. After a tight battle with Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), Lewis Hamilton came as a winner. The race took place in Monaco at a popular street circuit named ‘Circuit de Monaco’. This is the sixth race in the 2016 season. Lewis is one of the most popular British F-1 drivers hailing from England. He won the F-1 World Championships in the year 2015, 2014 and 2008.


Surajit K Purkayastha elected as WBP (West Bengal Police) Director General


On 30th May 2016, Surajit K Purkayastha was elected as the WBP (West Bengal Police) Director General. The surrogate will be replacing G.M.P Reddy who will be retiring on 31st May 2016. DGP (Director General of Police) Raj Kanoja of the Intelligence Branch who is Surajit’s senior has been given the position of the CG (Commanding General) and DG, Home Guards. Surajit has been serving the Indian Police services since 1985. Before this post, Surajit has worked as the COP (Commissioner of Police) of Kolkata.


42nd G7 Summit in Japan concluded


On 27th May 2016, the 42nd G7 summit that went for two days was concluded. The Summit started on 27th May 2016 and took place at Japan’s Ise-Shima. The major discussion point during this summit was a major global political and economic challenge. This summit was significant because after the adoption the 2030 SDA (Sustainable Development Agenda) by the United Nations, this was the first summit. The major topics discussed during this summit included energy and climate change, development, trade and the global economy, quality infrastructural investment and health.
