Anupam Pahuja appointed as PayPal India MD and Country Manager
On 22nd June 2016 Anupam Pahuja was appointed as PayPal India MD (Managing Director) & Country Manager. He will focus on PayPal India businesses. His task is to strengthen PayPal operations in India. Anupam’s prior job was with STS (Sum Total Systems) as India MD. PayPal is an online payment program operating worldwide. It is headquartered at California, US. PayPal is one of the biggest Internet Payment firms. PayPal was created in 1998. It performs payment process for auction sites, online vendors, commerce users etc. PayPal has operations in more than 180 nations. PayPal’S total revenue in 2014 was $7.9 Billion.
Aveek Sarkar resigned as ABP Chief Editor
Chief Editor Aveek Sarkar (Ananda Bazaar Patrika & the Telegraph) resigned on 22nd June 2016. He will continue as ABP’s chairman. Anirban Bhattacharya and R Rajagopalan were appointed as editors of ABP & the Telegraph respectively. Aveek Sarkar is one of India’s most prominent names in Indian publishing space. He was trained by world-famous Harold Evans. Aveek Sarkar took ABP’s Editor Post in 1983. He transformed AVP into a top national publication. He is also responsible for leading ABVs launch into television. Some of his major contributions were Penguin India formation, STAR News acquisition in 2003 etc.
Mercer’s COLS- 2016 (Cost of Living Survey 2016) released; Mumbai India’s costliest city
On 22nd June 2016 Mercer released COLS (Cost of Living Survey) 2016. Asia dominated this year’s rankings with top 5 cities in the list. Hong Kong and Luanda took top two places. The Mercer’s COL survey is carried out considering many factors. Some factors include cost inflation, currency fluctuations, unstable accommodation prices etc. The survey included about 370 cities across the world. Out of them, 209 cities were ranked across 5 continents. New York is taken as the base city for all cost comparisons & currency movements. The list included 5 Indian cities, Mumbai (62), New Delhi (130), Chennai (158), Kolkata (194) and Bangalore (180). The top 5 cities were Hong Kong, Luanda, Zurich, Singapore and Tokyo.
Tech Mahindra acquired UK-origin BIO Agency
On 22nd Tech Mahindra acquired UK based firm BIO Agency. Tech Mahindra is a technology services firm. BIO Agency is a digital transformation company from UK. The deal valued forty-five million pound will be an all-cash acquisition. Tech Mahindra will be paying twenty-two million pounds upfront and surplus 5 million in cash. Remaining amount will be paid in the form of deferred payments on the company performance. Tech Mahindra will get 100% shares of BIO Agency. BIO agency specializes in digital transformation in sectors like financial, retail and travel. This move will expand Tech Mahindra’s digital portfolio. It will ensure better services, digital strategy, customer experiences etc. for Tech Mahindra. The transaction’s closing date is expected by July 2016 first week. The acquisition will help BIO Agency make contacts with enterprise, telecom clients of TechM.
