BCCI selects Anil Kumble as ICT Head Coach


On 22nd June 2016 Anil Kumble was selected as the ICT (Indian Cricket Team) Head Coach. Kumble will be holding the position for 1 year. Kumble is one of the finest spinners from India. His first assignment as Head Coach will be upcoming West Indies Series. India will be playing 4 Test Matches. The decision for head coach was taken during a BCCI committee meeting at Dharamshala. The committee comprised of VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly as well as Sanjay Jagdale (Chief Co-ordinator). BCCI advertised for this position during May 2016. Out of the 57 people who applied, Anil Kumble was selected.


Britain voted to exit (EU European Union) in a historic referendum


On 24th June 2016, Britain people voted to exit (EU European Union) in a historic referendum. The referendum ‘to be a member’ or ‘to leave’ got 48.1% and 51.9% votes respectively. Also, the turnout for referendum was higher compared to 2015 elections. Scotland, London and Northern Ireland voted ‘to stay back’ with EU while English shire and Wales voted Brexit (Britain Exit) from EU. The Brexit campaigners are for more concerned about costs which outweighs the cost concerns if Britain leaves EU. After this historic referendum, Prime Minister of Britain David Cameron resigned from his post.


DOS (Day of the Seafarer) 2016 observed


On 25th June 2016, DOS (Day of the Seafarer) 2016 was celebrated across the Globe. The theme for 2016 was ‘At Sea for all.’ The theme clearly links to the 2016 WMD (World Maritime Day) theme. This theme signifies the fact that seafarers not only serve for shipping sector or for themselves but for each one of us. This day is celebrated to thank the seafarers for their significant contribution towards the world economy as well as civil society.


Union Government launches first ever pilot programme for running two-wheelers on CNG


On 23rd June 2016, Union Government introduced first ever pilot programme for running two-wheelers on CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). The program will be launched in the capital city, New Delhi. The programme is one-of-its kind and will be implemented by IGL (Indraprastha Gas Limited) and GAIL. Dahrmendra Pradhan (State Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas) and Prakash Jadavkar (State Minister for Forests, Environment and Climate Change) launched the programme. This pilot-programme has been implemented under the HBM (Hawa Badlo Movement). It will involve 50 two-wheelers retrofitted with CNG. The scooters will be from IMIPL (Ituk Manufacturing India Pvt. Ltd.).


Union Cabinet approved biggest-ever Spectrum Auction


On 22nd June 2016, Prime Minister chaired Union Cabinet approved the biggest-ever Spectrum Auction in India. As per reserve price, the exchequer will be fetching about INR 5.5 Lakh Crore with this move. This is 5 times higher compared to the auction amount fetched in 2015. About 2000 MHz airwaves will be put up for sale in this auction. Prices have been fixed for different spectrum airwaves such as INR 2873 Crore for 1800 MHz, INR 3341 Crore for 2500 MHz spectrum.
