Noted Telangana lyricist and poet Guda Anjaiah passed away


On 21st June 2016, Noted Telangana lyricist and poet Guda Anjaiah passed away. He died at his Ragannadudem house following a short illness. He was of 61 years age. His songs were both enchanting and aggravating and greatly influenced statehood movement supporters. His most famous song “Ooru manadi ra, ee vada manadi ra” has been translated into many languages. He was a key player in the Telangana movement and penned many songs which were later used in many films too.


Mori village from Andhra Pradesh selected for Smart Village Development


On 19th June, the government announced that it has chosen Andhra Pradesh’s Mori District for its Smart Village Development Project. This village is situated across the East-Godavari district. Under this project, it will be turned in to a global standards village. During this announcement, the project developers also confirmed that they will be ready with the prototype by December 2016. The project developments will be using SCSBM (Self-contained Sustainable Business Model). The project will also involve usage of digital tools, uninterrupted internet connection and real-time information. Some of the facilities that will be provided as per this project are 24×7 supplies of power, e-commerce and organic farming. Other facilities will include direct marketing opportunities and fiber-optic connectivity.


Sunway TaihuLight from China recognized as the fastest supercomputer in the world


On 20th June 2016, Sunway TaihuLight from China was recognized as the fastest supercomputer in the world. It showcased a speed of 93 petaflop/second. This announcement was revealed at the ISC (International Supercomputing Conference) in Germany. The list of TOP500 Supercomputers also confirmed that China is the top nation with biggest number of supercomputing systems. China has 167 systems whereas USA has 165. Indian-based organizations own 8 supercomputers from. The supercomputer Taihulight was created by the NRCPC (National Research Center of Parallel Computer Engineering & Technology). The installation took place at the NSC (National Supercomputing Center) in Wuxi.


UNCTAD releases WIR (World Investment Report) 2016


On 21st June 2016, the UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) released the WIR (World Investment Report) 2016. The title of this report was ‘Investor Nationality: Policy Challenges’. The report analyzed the new ability of policymakers to distinguish between “foreign” and “domestic” entities across the globalized economy. It also highlights their ability to provide framework for ownership problems in this new investment policymaking scenario.


World Bank released IDU (India Development Update) 2016


On 20th June 2016 World Bank released IDU (India Development Update) 2016. This is a mid-year edition. It reported that the growth and expansion of Indian economy was faster in the FY2016. Demand from the urban households as well as public investment lifted the economy in spite of stalled key growth sectors. It also reviewed the present challenges across the financial sector in India. Service and manufacturing sectors performed well creating urban jobs. On the other hand, household consumption across rural areas, private investments as well as exports performed negative.
