National Tourism (2014-15) Awards presented


On 30th July 2016, National Tourism (2014-15) Awards were presented. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan presented the awards. It was given for various segments across the tourism, travel & hospitality industry. MP was chosen as ‘best state’ in the Comprehensive Tourism Development category. Gujarat & Karnataka came second and third. The BFJ (Best Foreign Journalist) award was received by Stephanie Pearson (America). She received the award for her ‘The Great Heaven’ feature on state Kerala. The best ‘tourism’ film award was received by Daman & Diu for ‘Ilha De Calma’. Mumbai’s Chhatrapati airport was given the best airport award. Warangal, Telangana was the ‘best Heritage city’.


Rajya Sabha passed DAB, 2016


On 1st August 2016, Rajya Sabhi passed the DAB, 2016. It was passed with a voice vote. It is a bill for amending the 1948 Dentists Act. It was passed by Lok Sabha on 19th July 2016. It will now reach the President of India for his assent. As per the bill, all DEIs (Dental Educational Institutions) will have uniform entrance examinations. This will be applicable for both undergraduate & post-graduate level. In case a state does not adopt the pattern, the examination will be invalid. The provision is applicable to dental colleges (private) and state government dental colleges.


Angela Ruggiero elected as Head of IOC-Athletes’ Commission Head


Angela Ruggiero was elected as Head of IOC-Athletes’ Commission Head. The announcement came on 1st August 2016. He is an Olympic Ice Hockey Champion from America. Thomas Bach (President, International Olympic Committee) appointed Angela officially. The decision was taken during OIC Athlete Commission & IOC Executive Committee joint meeting. Angela will be succeeding Caludia Bokel. Angela has the highest number of games for USA in her kitty. Currently, she is IOC-AC vice-chairman. She has won 2 Gold medals & six silver medals. He has taken part in 10 World Championships till now. She retired in the year 2011.


Scientists developed CO2 recycle mechanism


Researchers from America have developed CO2 recycle mechanism. This will help in converting greenhouse gas CO2 (carbon dioxide) into CO (carbon monoxide). It can be them reprocessed/recycled into serviceable fuel. It is based on photosynthesis process of trees. The mechanism was developed by ANL (Argonne National Laboratory) & IU (Illinois University, Chicago). The process is monitored under the USDOE (US Department of Energy).


1st human gene-editing trial by China


Chinese Scientists will be performing human gene –editing trail. It will be the first-ever human gene-editing trail. It will be conducted in an effort for finding out lung cancer cure. Dr. L You at the Sichuan University’s WC (West China) Hospital will carry out this trial. On 6th July 2016, he received approved from the Hospital review board. The trial is constructed on CRISPR–Cas9 technique. CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) are prokaryotic DNA segments. They contain short repetitions of the base sequences. CRISPR will help scientists in editing selective genome parts. It is also let them to selectivity substitute genomes with fresh DNA segments.
