Rani S Nair elected as CBDT Chairperson


On 1st August 2016, Rani S Nair was elected as CBDT Chairperson. She is a senior IRS (Indian Revenue Service) officer. CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) is a government organization. She will be succeeding Atulesh Jindal. Atul became CBDT head in Feb 2016. He however, retired on 31st July 2016. Nair will be overseeing effective implementation of the IDS (Income Declaration Scheme). It is an ambitious one-time (domestic) BMD (Black Money Domestic) program. She is an IRS officer of 1979 batch. She specialized in the IT (income tax) cadre. At CBDT, she worked as Legislation & Computerization member.


Deepak Iyer elected as Mondelez India MD


On 1st Aug 2016, Deepak Iyer was elected as Mondelez India MD (Managing Director). He will be looking after the India business of the food company. He will be succeeding Chandramouli Venkatesan. Venkatesan acted as Mondelez India MD for2 years running its operations. He is with Mondelez for more than 10 years. Iyer will be a part of Asia-Pacific Leadership Team. He will report to Asia-Pacific President of MI Maurizio Brusadelli. Before this, Iyer was the CEO & MD of BAGIC (Bharti Axa General Insurance Company). She was also CEO & MD of Wrigley- India operations. He was also a part of PepsiCo for more than 17 years. He is an industry veteran with experiences in various cross sectors.


Railway Minister flags off maiden broad-gauge train-service


On 31st July 2016, maiden broad-gauge train-service between Agartala & Delhi started. It was flagged off by Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister. The name of the express was ‘Tripura Sundari Express’. It will run between Delhi’s Anand Vihar & Agartala weekly. There will be 16 commercial stoppage stations. It will cover 2461 kms distance. Expected time will be 46 hours & 50 minutes. Some of the major in-between stations will be New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati. The total cost of the project was INR 986 crore. During this event, another IRP (International Rail Project) was launched. During this inauguration, the railway minister also announced another project. It will be between Indian Railways and the Bangladesh Government.


Anant Maheshwari elected as Microsoft India President


Anant Maheshwari was elected as Microsoft India President on 1st August 2016. Maheshwari will be succeeding Bhaskar Pramanik after his retirement in 2017. Anant will take over from 1st September 2016 onwards and will oversee the company’s operations from 1st January 2017 onwards. He will be looking after all Microsoft’s services, products & support offerings in India. At present, Anant is Honeywell India president. In Honeywell, he oversaw 3 SBGs (Strategic Business Groups): ACS (Aerospace, Automation & Control Systems). His previous roles with Honeywell were as MD (Managing Director). He also conceptualized & started the Honeywell India security operations. Anant is an industry veteran with huge cross-sectorial experience. During his tenure, Anant will try to expand Microsoft’s operations.
