Muhammad Ali, Greatest boxer of all time, dies


On 3 June 2016, Muhammad Ali, the greatest boxer of all time died. He was staying in Phoenix, Arizona. He was seventy-four years old and suffering from Parkinson disease for the past 32 years. Ali was born in 17th January 1942 as CMC, Jr. (Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr). He is regarded as the greatest boxer in the history of sports. BBC has conferred him as ‘Sports personality of the Century’ and Sports Illustrated has conferred him as ‘Sportsman of the Century’. He had also written many best-selling books on his career such as ‘The Soul of a Butterfly’ and ‘The Greatest: My Own Story’.  He was the only boxer to have won the WHC (World Heavyweight Champion) award three times, in 1978, 1974 and 1964.


Navin Agarwal elected as NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency) DG


On 3rd June 2016, Navin Agarwal was elected as the DG (Deputy General) and CEO (Chief Executive Officer of the NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency). His appointment was approved by the ACC (Appointment Committee of Cabinet) headed by Narendra Modi. He will be serving this post for a five year term. NADA is a registered society set up under the SR (Societies Registration) Act, 1980 on 24th November 2005 with an objective of establishing a dope-free sports system in India. Some of its goals include implementation of anti-doping rules according to WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency), regulating the dope-control program as well as promoting research and education in creating awareness regarding the side effects of doping.


International Day observed on ‘Innocent Children Victims of Aggression’, 2016


On 3rd June 2016, International Day was observed across the globe on ‘Innocent Children Victims of Aggression’, 2016. The objective of this day is acknowledging the numerous pain that children across the globe suffer being victims of mental, physical as well as emotional abuse. This day was first observed on 19th August 1982 and focused on the Lebanon War (1982) victim. The day acknowledges the UN’s commitment towards protecting the children’s rights.


TRAI launched DND Services (Mobile Application) for registering complaints


On 1st June 2016, the TRAI launched the DND SMA (Services Mobile Application) for its telecom subscribers for registering their complaints. Subscribers can compliant against SMSes and pesky calls. This new application will ensure easy registration of complaints as well as more effective monitoring by the authority. Before this, subscribers had to file compliant by SMSing to 1909. The application will be available on both Apple IOS and Android.


India joins HCC (Hague Code of Conduct) against BMP (Ballistic Missile Proliferation)


On 1st June 2016, India joined the HCoC (Hague Code of Conduct) against the BMP (Ballistic Missile Proliferation) as the 138th subscribing state. India joined the group after notifying the HCoC Central in Vienna through its diplomatic channels. Joining this join is a sign of India’s readiness towards further strengthening the global non-proliferation agenda. HOCC promotes confidence building and transparency among participating nations by submission of pre-launch notifications as well as annual submission of relevant policies.
