Spain’s Garbine Muguruza grabs 2016 FOWST (French Open Women’s Singles tennis) title


On 4th June 2016, Spain’s Garbine Muguruza grabbed the 2016 FOWST (French Open Women’s Singles tennis) title. The event took place at the RG (Roland Garros) Stadium in France. 22 year old Garbine clinched her first ever Grand Slam award. With this, she also becomes the first women from Spain to win this title since Sanchez-Vicario’s Paris win in 1998. Garbine defeated world champion from USA Serena Williams in an interesting set of 7-5, 6-4 during the final round. In 2015, Garbine lost to Serena Williams during the Wimbledon finals.


State Assembly passes AEDB (Assam Ease of Doing Business) Bill, 2016


On 4th June 2016, Assam State Assembly passed the AEDB (Assam Ease of Doing Business) Bill, 2016. This legislation will help enterprises to attract new investments across the state via an easy to use and less complicated computerized clearance process. The current Bill will be replacing the previous bill that was announced on 26th February 2016. This bill will ensure speedy application processing as well as clearances of issues for industry set ups. It will also create an environment which is investment-friendly and help in the state’s economic development


THOR, World’s first-ever 3D-printed aircraft displayed at the IAE (International Aerospace Exhibition)


On 1st June 2016, THOR (Test of High-tech Objectives in Reality), World’s first-ever 3D-printed aircraft was displayed at the IAE (International Aerospace Exhibition) in Schoenefe. It is a Drone resembling a large and white airplane model. It is the first-ever 3D-printed aircraft having just three parts. It weighs only 21 kgs; about 4 meters long and is windowless. It is faster, cheaper and lighter. Apart from the electrical parts, all others are 3D printed from polyamide (a substance). The inaugural flight of Thor took place in 2015 in Hamburg, Northern Germany. This radical innovation is expected to reduce aviation related carbon emissions to a huge extent.


Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar launched RTPGR (Right to Public Grievance Redressal) Act


On 5th June 2015, Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar launched the RTPGR (Right to Public Grievance Redressal) Act. The objective of this act is to dispose the complaints of people as well as grievance redressal from the Government officials in a time period of maximum 60 days. There are strict provisions against non-compliance of any application. Officials who do not adhere to these provisions can face penalty or be dismissed. The Act will cover all 42 State Departments.


CR Sasikumar appointed as SBT (State Bank of Travancore) MD


On 1st June 2016, CR Sasikumar was appointed as the Managing Director of SBT (State Bank of Travancore). SBT is an associate bank of SBI (State Bank of India). Sasikumar started off as a SBI probationary officer in 1978. Since then, Sashikumar has been designated with various key assignments. Before being appointed as the MD, he was serving as the Deputy MD (Inspection and Management Audit) at the SBI Corporate House in Hyderabad.
