Union Government establishes radical changes across the FDI Policy system; Grants 100 percent FDI in the Defense Sector


On 20th June 2016, Union Government radically changed India’s FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) Policy System by granting 100 percent FDI in the Defense sector. The objective behind this radical shift was speeding up the job creation and employment process in India. The various changes incorporated in the FDI policy included improving sectorial caps, automization as well as easing the foreign investments in India. The radical shifts in food production and manufacturing in India included 100 percent FDI permit under the government approved trading route. Similarly FDI in the Defense Sector has been increased to 100 percent.


Using Potassium Bromate (KbrO3) as a food additive banned by Union Government


On 20th June 2016, usage of a common food additive Potassium Bromate (KbrO3) was banned by Union Government. The move came after similar recommendations from the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India). Earlier during May 2016, FSSAI recommended the ministry of health to ban potassium bromate from its list of approved food additive, after it was found that it has cancer causing chemicals. FSSAI made the recommendation after claims from the CSE (Centre for Science and Environment) that the commonly used food additive potassium bromate is classified under the 2B-Category Carcinogen and can cause cancer among humans.


Punjab government launched MMPH-C (Mukh Mantri Punjab Hepatitis-C) Relief Fund


On 18th June 2016, Chief Minister of Punjab PS Badal launched the MMPH-C (Mukh Mantri Punjab Hepatitis-C) Relief Fund. Under this fund, free treatment will be provided to patients who are suffering from Hepatitis-C. With this fund, Punjab becomes the first state in India to offer free treatment for confirmed Hepatitis-C cases. The initial corpus given to the program will be INR 20 Crore. Apart from the 22 Punjab-District Hospitals, free treatment will also be provided across GMCs (Government Medical Colleges) in Punjab.


IDY (International Day of Yoga) 2016 celebrated across the Globe


On 21st June 2016, IDY (International Day of Yoga) was celebrated across the globe. The theme for this year was ‘Connect the Youth’. This year’s celebration highlighted the significance of healthy living in realizing out SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) that were adopted by 193 Member States of the UN in 2015. The Indian Union Government organized an event the NEMYD (National Event of Mass Yoga Demonstration) at the Chandigarh Capitol Complex were Narendra Modi performed yoga himself.


India and Thailand sign 2 agreements: Cooperation in Education and Culture sectors


During the Prime Minister of Thailand (General) Prayut Chan-o-Cha’s three day visit to India; two sets of agreements were signed between the Indian government and Government of Thailand. These two agreements were related to the extension of CEP (Cultural Exchange Program) as well as a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between Chiang-Mai University of Thailand and Nagaland University. The signing event took place on 18th June 2016 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan at New Delhi were the Thailand PM concluded his Indian visit. Both Prime Ministers also agreed on cooperating across various other areas such as military, cyber security, intelligence, maritime security etc.
