Bipin Patel elected as the President of GCCI (Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry)


On 18th June 2016, noted businessman Bipin Patel was elected as the President of GCCI (Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry). He will be succeeding Rohit Patel and will be working for term 2016-17. This decision was taken at the AGM (Annual General Meeting) of GCCI. Also, Shailesh Patwari has been appointed as Senior VP (Vice-president) of GCCI. The GCCI was established in the year 1949 by Amrutlal Hargovandas and Kasturbhai Lalbhai, pioneer Gujarat industrialists.


South Korea and India launched Korea Plus


On 18th June 2016, South Korea and India together launched a special project named Korea Plus. This initiative will aim at facilitating as well as promoting Korean Investments across the Indian sub-continent. This platform was initiated by Nirmala Sitharaman (Commerce and Industry Minister) and Joo Hyunghwan (Trade Minister- Energy & Industry, Korea Government). This Korea Plus mandates will be covering the total investment spectrum that includes supporting Korean firms for smooth marker entry in India. It will also ensure that the issues encountered by Korean firms in doing businesses in India are reduced as well as Korean business policies are advocated to the government for smooth business flow.


Mobile app named URJA launched for enhancing consumer connectivity with the UPD (Urban Power Distribution) sector


On 16th June 2016, Piyush Goyel (Union Minister- Coal, Power, New and Renewable Energy) launched a new Mobile Application called URJA (Urban Jyoti Abhiyaan). This mobile app has been launched with the objective of enhancing consumer connectivity with the UPD (Urban Power Distribution) sector. The event took place during the Power Minister Conference at Cansaulim, South Goa. The Mobile App will work by providing important information of the IT enabled cities on significant parameters concerning the consumers. Few of the main parameters include timely connection release, power reliability, outage information, addressing complaints etc. The app has been developed by the PFCL (Power Finance Corporate Limited).


WRD (World Refugee Day) observed across the globe


On 20th June 2016, the world observed WRD (World Refugee Day). This day is observed every year for drawing attention towards the plight faced by refuges across the world, celebrate their resilience and courage as well as renew the global commitment towards refugee problems. This day also recognizes the various contributions made by the refugees to the nations hosting them. A large number of Refugees are currently in exile and trying to escape the human-made or natural disasters. Almost 4/5th of world’s refugees are hosted by developing nations. Around 2.3 million global refugees have taken asylum in forty-eight least developed nations.


India wins Silver at AWC (Archery World Cup) in Antalya


On 19th June the mixed-curve team from India, Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari grabbed silver at AWC (Archery World Cup) that took place at Antalya, Turkey. The team from India was defeated by South Korea 1.5 that took place at the KB (Konyaalti Beach) Park. The team that won South Korea included Ku Bonchan and Choi Misun. Indian team reached the final round after beating Guendalina Sartori and Mauro Nespoli by 5-1 in semi-finals.
